Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)?
A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a framework to provide targeted and tiered interventions to students struggling to meet academic and behavioral standards. MTSS uses various screening and progress monitoring tools to determine if students are meeting the standards, and provides a tiered intensity to the levels of support, depending on student needs. In the Rumson School District, the MTSS model includes several components. Each component contributes to the overall support to help students achieve excellence in all aspects of their learning. It is the belief that these tiers serve to provide additional services for student success at each one, and not replacement services as additional ones are implemented. For example, if students receive tier 2 services, they will still receive the tier 1 services. The Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) protocols, under a team of staff members, are used to guide academic tiered support services. The Social & Emotional/Conduct Learning Team, composed of identified staff members, guide the social, emotional, behavioral tiered support services.
